We have more than 180 sponsors, from several countries, young, old, retired, working in all kinds of things, from housewives to engineers, and unemployed as well. The youngest sponsor is 2 years old! Some have been helping us for nearly 10 years. Although most are from Barcelona and around, family, friends and colleagues, more and more people join our project. At the moment we have sponsors from over 20 countries!

Tenim uns 180 padrins, de varis països, joves, grans, jubilats; que fan tot tipus de feines, de mestresses de casa a enginyers, i gent ‘al paro’ com no. La padrina més petita té dos anyets! Alguns fa gairebé deu anys que col·laboren. Encara que la majoria continuen sent Catalans, amics, familiars i coneguts, cada vegada més gent ens ajuda en aquest projecte. Ja tenim padrins de més de 20 països.

Why we sponsor a child

“When a friend of us, 8 years ago, told us that she wanted to start a project such as this one we thought it was a great idea and we did not take time to sponsor a child. We are aware of the challenges people face in places such as Burkina Faso and we believe education can help create a better world. Our contribution helps a little girl, Laurentine, have the opportunity to get educated. And that’s not everything; we know that if she gets sick, the NGO would also help. And the most important is not that we help, but that lots of people like us help, and we make it possible for these NGO to keep the school running, sharing knowledge to the children but also sharing values to their parents and the whole slum. So that they see that through education they can live a better life, and make their country a better place. For us it is a great pleasure to be part of this project.”

 “Quan una amiga, ja fa 8anys, ens va comentar que volia tirar endavant un projecte com aquest, vam pensar que era una bona iniciativa i no vam dubtar en apadrinar un nen. Som força conscients de les limitacions que té la gent de països com Burkina Faso, i creiem en l’educació com a eina per construir un món millor, així doncs si la nostra aportació havia de servir perquè una nena, la Laurentine, pogués tenir la oportunitat de ser escolaritzada, i no només això, sinó que si està malalta la ONG sabem que li proporciona l’atenció mèdica que necessita, doncs ja valia la pena. I el més important no és la nostra col·laboració, sinó la suma de la de tanta gent com nosaltres, que permet que l’ONG Apadrina un nen a Burkina pugui dur a terme una tasca tant important com la de mantenir una escola oberta, amb tot el que això implica: donar feina a mestres, transmetre coneixements als infants i sobretot, valors a tota una comunitat, que amb el temps entendrà com n’és d’important que els infants vagin a l’escola per aconseguir un país millor en el futur. Així doncs, per a nosaltres és molt gratificant formar part d’aquest projecte.”
