Timeline

  • 2015: In June and for the first time, eight children our NGO supports from secondary school take the state exam to enter high school. Four of them pass the exam, a great success considering that these children study at night, after helping with housework, at the light of a candle on a carpet because they do not have a table, a chair or electricity at home.
  • 2014: Our NGO keeps growing; we have more than 350 children in our primary school and we help 60 children attend secondary school. More than 30 mothers attend the evening lessons and over 20 European sponsors have now visited our school.
  • 2013: Two French sponsors visit our school and they create the first library, with more than 150 French books for children. We continue with the evening lessons for mothers, which are a success.
  • 2012: The scouts of Castellbisbal (a village near Barcelona) visit our school. Apart from bringing lots of school material and teaching circus and theatre to the children, they fundraise to install electricity to our school. Thanks to this, we can start the literacy lessons for mothers in the evenings.
  • 2011: Parents’ association of our school is created to help with management of education. In June that year, and for the first time, our NGO sends 30 children to take the state exam to enter secondary school, and all of them pass it. We receive a certificate of the government to acknowledge our outstanding work in the slum.
  • 2010: Several activities launched to raise funds, such as photo expositions and a stall with Burkina objects in a local market. The Duathlon of our village gives us 3000 euros.
  • 2009: NGO established and registered to be able to sponsor more children.
  • 2008: Aida visits the school again and starts to sponsor 10 children, with the help of family and friends.
  • 2006/2007: Aida Cuni works as a volunteer in an English school in a rich neighbourhood of Ouagadougou. She meets Mr Conombo and learns about his project of school in the slum. They become friends and she starts to teach every Saturday in his ‘hut’ in the slum where he lives and teaches 15 children.
